This Lost Dog had the most LA Weekend.
Losing a dog in Los Angeles is any dog owner’s worst nightmare. There are too many ways to die here, from running onto the 101 offramps to getting snatched by a pack of coyotes or struck by a cool Gen-Xer on a Bird scooter. But sometimes, a miracle happens. And the lost dog gets found on the best block in Silverlake, one of LA’s hippest neighborhoods.
Earlier this Spring, my neighbor Abby found a relatively young Doberman Pincher aimlessly wandering our street. He looked thin, dehydrated, and confused, like most people in LA. Abby doesn’t have the Nextdoor app because she values her sanity, so I volunteered to post about the dog we temporarily named Max to try and reunite him with his owners. We also posted on Instagram, Facebook, and PawBoost, because we were determined to help Max get back home or, at the very least, get an agent.
In the meantime, Abby set Max up with a fresh bowl of water and a plate of chicken from Erewhon because that’s all she had. She replaced the metal-pronged collar wrapped around his throat with a sleek new black one that was less weaponlike and went better with his eyes. Abby also cleaned Max up and gave him a new dog bed so he could take a load off. We wondered if he escaped or was dumped in the neighborhood by some dipwad asshat who didn’t deserve a dog in the first place. Unfortunately, Max didn’t speak enough English to…
